LB is a Regular Volunteering Program under NUS CSC, which serves the elderly living in one-room flats in Jalan Bukit Merah. Many of the elderly whom we visit are retired, living alone and on the Public Assistance Scheme or other forms of social welfare.
Volunteers are divided into dialect groups to visit 2-3 elderly during the visits. We provide a listening for the elderly and sometimes help them with some household chores and grocery shopping. Apart from normal visits, we also celebrate special events like Chinese New Year and Mid Autumn Festival with them! During these events, we’ll play games with the elderly, sing for them and also treat them to some light refreshments. We also have lucky draws for them and they’ll always be happy to walk away with the prizes!
