History

Ever since PAH was started in year 2000, the primary objective is to give volunteers an opportunity to make a positive difference in the community by refurbishing and improving the aesthetic outlook of welfare homes in Singapore. Over the past 9 years, PAH volunteers had repainted and enhanced the aesthetic outlook of various homes such as Pertapis Children’s Home (2006), Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled (2007) and Jamiyah Children’s Home (2008).

Paint-A-Home 2008

Project Directors Pauline Seow, Laura Lye and Teo Hui Min chose Jamiyah Children’s Home as the beneficiary in hope of bringing colours of joy and adding new perspectives of lives to the residents of the home. Together with their creative and passionate organising committee, they planned to paint 12 dorms and 2 halls with murals, line the 2 corridors with new stencils and give all doors a fresh coat of paint. The project was executed over 2 weekends and about 400 volunteers were recruited to assist in the painting.

In addition to the primary objective, the committee had also organised activities for the children so that volunteers could experience interaction with children and learn more about them in the process. PAH 2008 was then successfully concluded with children smiling happily as their rooms were painted with beautiful murals. This had brought much satisfaction and joy to both the volunteers and organising committee for the transformation they had made to the children and the home.
